Customer complaint about orange peel taught me a hard lesson
Had a guy bring his Mustang back last month because he said the clear coat looked bumpy. I told him that's just orange peel, it happens. He showed me a spot on his friend's BMW that was glass smooth and asked why I couldn't do that. Spent the next weekend practicing with different pressure settings on my HVLP gun. Now I wet sand and buff every single job before delivery, adds about 45 minutes but the finish is way better. Anyone else get told their work needs to be better by a customer and actually learned something from it?

Had a buddy who does collision work on the side tell me a story about this one guy with a Corvette who complained about his paint having "dimples." My friend was ready to argue but then he actually looked closer and yeah, it was bad orange peel. He ended up spending a whole weekend re-doing the whole panel and now he wetsands everything too. It's funny how sometimes the customer is just right even when you think they're being picky. Made me check my own work a lot more carefully after hearing that.

Oh man, that reminds me of my buddy who swore his paint was fine until he saw it in direct sunlight.
