Bondo vs. fiberglass on a quarter panel: which is the smarter fix?

I just wrapped up a 2005 Mustang that had a rust hole the size of a softball in the rear quarter. I spent 3 hours debating whether to go all in with fiberglass mat and resin or just fill it with Bondo and screen mesh. I ended up choosing fiberglass because I figured it would hold up better long term, but man, it took forever to sand smooth and I still had pin holes. Now I'm wondering if the Bondo shortcut would have cracked in a year anyway. For a patch that big on a daily driver, what do you guys pick and why?

Fiberglass every time for anything bigger than a golf ball, Bondo just cracks.

Have you tried using mat with your fiberglass though?
