After 15 years of using a DA sander, I switched to a longboard for an entire S-Class hood in Charlotte and got it glass smooth in half the time.

Took me forever to stop hating on longboards but one try on that big Mercedes panel and I was a believer, so what made you guys finally ditch a tool you swore by?

Man that Mercedes hood must have been a beast, but yeah once you feel how flat a longboard gets things there's no going back. I had the same stubborn attitude for years until I tackled a tough metallic flake job and realized my DA was leaving all these little ridges. Now I grab the longboard for every big flat section and it honestly cuts my block sanding time in half.

DA sander works fine if you know how to use it. People blame their tools when they're really just lifting the edge or rushing through the grits.
