Went with the more expensive plumber last week and now I'm wondering if I got played

My toilet been running nonstop for like a month. Called two plumbers for quotes. One guy said $150 flat rate, the other said $350. I went with the expensive one cause he had great reviews and a van with his logo on it. He replaced the flapper and fill valve in like 20 minutes. Worked fine for a day, then started leaking again. Had to call him back and he charged another $50 trip fee. Meanwhile my neighbor used the $150 guy for the same thing and it's been perfect for 3 months now. Is the expensive route always worth it or do we just get played by the guys with fancy trucks?

I mean you paid for the fancy van experience, not the plumbing fix. The logo on the side probably cost an extra $200 alone. Guy showed up looking like a pro, did the same 20 minute job the cheap guy would have done, then charged you again when his work didn't hold up. I'd be more mad about that $50 trip fee than anything else. That's just insult to injury right there.

@miller.eva you hit the nail on the head with that trip fee. That's what would stick in my craw too, honestly. Like you already paid for the work and it failed, now you gotta pay just for the guy to step foot in your house again? Feels like a double dip. The fancy van is just window dressing at that point, it doesn't fix a leaky pipe any better than a rusty pickup. Sorry you had to deal with that nonsense, it's just bad business all around.
