Booked a handyman through an app and got charged $180 for a 20 minute job

Called someone off one of those service apps to fix a loose toilet handle. Guy was here 20 minutes and charged me $180 plus a $45 booking fee. Next time I'll just call the guy my neighbor recommended directly. Anyone else getting ripped off by these app middlemen?

Paid $45 just for the privilege of booking him? That's wild (and not in a good way). Those apps really know how to nickel and dime you.

Learned this lesson myself last year and now I only use word of mouth from people I trust. @the_nina is right about those fees adding up fast and for nothing.
