Vent: My HVAC unit died during that 95 degree stretch last July

Came home from work on a Thursday and the house was 88 degrees inside. AC just quit blowing cold air. Called three companies, cheapest quote was $4,200 for a new condenser fan motor and refrigerant refill. Ended up going with a guy my neighbor recommended for $2,800 and he had it running by Saturday morning. Has anyone else had their AC crap out at the worst possible time or am I just unlucky?

Dude that exact thing happened to me last July. I came home from work and my house was 89 degrees, my cat was just lying flat on the tile floor like a pancake. The worst part was I had just spent all my money on new tires for my truck the week before. I called around and got quotes from $3,800 to $5,500. Ended up watching like 4 YouTube videos and trying to fix it myself with a borrowed multimeter. I shocked myself so bad I saw stars, called a pro the next morning and paid $3,200. I swear these AC units have a sixth sense for when you're broke.

Man I feel your pain, that happened to me two summers ago during a heatwave. My unit died on a Friday evening and every place was booked solid until Monday. I ended up buying a window unit from Home Depot just to survive the weekend while I waited on a repair guy. That little window unit saved my sanity, cost me like 300 bucks but I still use it for the garage.
