Six months ago I put a $20 smart plug on the recirculating pump under my sink in Grant Park, set it to run 15 minutes before my morning shower instead of all day. Gas bill dropped about $18 a month, so I'm happy. My neighbor says running a pump on a smart plug is a fire risk and I should have paid an electrician $400 to wire a timer. I get his point about cheap plugs, but $400 is a lot of months of savings. Anybody here run a pump or heater on a smart plug long term, and did it hold up or fail?
