TIL my neighbor in Decatur pays $340 a year less on insurance just for having a brick house
He mentioned it while we were both out getting the mail and I had no idea the material mattered that much to premiums. Is it worth asking my agent about a re-check or do they only adjust at renewal?
My agent in Marietta told me brick discounts usually run 5 to 15 percent, but a lot of carriers only apply them when the house is mostly brick, not just the front. That is the part people miss. Your neighbor's $340 might not come from the brick alone, it could be brick plus a newer roof or a claim-free record. So when you call, ask them to walk through every discount on the policy, not just the wall material. Worst case they say no and you know for next renewal.
