The day I quit using my leaf blower on my lawn in Decatur

I used to be out there every Saturday with my gas leaf blower blowing every single blade of grass off the sidewalk and driveway. My neighbor Marty said I was making too much noise at 8am and honestly he had a point. So about 6 months ago I switched to just using a rake and a broom for the hard surfaces and it took some getting used to. I mean, it takes me maybe 10 minutes longer now but I don't have to worry about gas or earplugs or waking people up. The weird thing is I actually notice more stuff on the ground like acorns that would have just blown into the street. Has anyone else in Atlanta made the switch to less noise in the yard or am I just turning into an old man?

Hold on, mushrooms? Like actual mushrooms in the grass after rain? That is wild. I've been raking for a few months now and I haven't seen anything cool like that yet, just a ton of acorns and these weird sticky seed pods from the tree in my backyard. Maybe I need to pay more attention. It's crazy how you can blast through a yard for years with a leaf blower and just miss every little thing happening on the ground. Now I'm wondering what else I've been missing all this time.

My neighbor down the street used to joke that I was gonna blow all the topsoil off my yard if I kept using my gas blower. I thought he was being dramatic until I switched to raking and sweeping about 4 months ago. Now I see all the stuff I was missing before like fallen acorns and the little mushrooms that pop up after rain. It actually made me slow down and notice my yard way more. I used to be all about speed and noise but honestly the quiet mornings are kind of nice. Youre not turning into an old man, youre just being practical.
