Switched from a lawn service to doing it myself after getting a $400 quote for monthly mowing.

I was paying $180 a month for someone to cut my grass in Decatur for two years until I saw the invoice breakdown and realized I could buy a nice Toro mower after just three months of skipping them, so now I do it every Saturday morning with a podcast and a beer, anyone else save money by ditching a service?

I read somewhere that the average homeowner spends over a thousand bucks a year on lawn care services, and that number kind of stuck with me. For me, it was the $400 quote that finally did it, because that's basically a month of groceries for my family. Now I'm out there with my Toro every Saturday morning, and honestly, the exercise is a nice bonus on top of the savings. My neighbor still pays a crew $200 a month, and I just shake my head every time I see them pull up. It's wild how fast those payments add up once you actually stop doing them.

I swapped my pest control service for a $30 bottle of spray from Home Depot and saved about $200 a year, plus I feel like I actually own my house now. Nothing beats knocking out chores with a cold one in your hand.
