Question about my water bill in Decatur

I got a bill for $200 last month and thought it was just summer watering. My neighbor asked if I had checked for a running toilet, and sure enough, the flapper in my guest bathroom was broken. Has anyone else had a sneaky leak like that jack up their costs?

Ugh, that's the worst kind of hidden bill hike.

Had the same thing happen a few years back... my bill was crazy high and it turned out to be a slow leak in the toilet fill valve. I started putting a few drops of food coloring in the tank to check for leaks every couple months now. It's a cheap way to see if color shows up in the bowl without flushing. Saved me from another surprise bill for sure.
