PSA: I thought that $99 crawlspace quote was a scam until the mold test came back
When a guy knocked on my door in Decatur last month offering a free crawlspace check, I was sure it was just a setup to sell me a $99 dehumidifier I did not need. He came back with photos of standing water and a mold reading of 31 percent, and my own $40 moisture meter agreed with him two days later. Has anyone else here had a random door-to-door inspection turn out to be real, or did I just get lucky with the one honest guy in the county?
A mold reading of 31 percent and a $40 meter both agreeing is not luck, that is just water sitting there. But door to door guys still sketch me out because the free check is the sales pitch, and the $99 is the hook. What did the full job end up costing you after that quote, because the cheap part is never the real price with these companies.
