Pro tip: I used to just let my gutters go until they were full, now I check them after every big storm
For years, I'd only clean my gutters in Decatur once a year in the fall. After a heavy rain last April, I saw water pouring over the side and found a clog from oak leaves and pine needles. I got up there with a ladder and a $15 gutter scoop from Ace Hardware and cleared it out in about 20 minutes. Now I make a quick visual check after any storm with heavy wind, and it's saved me from two other small backups already. How often do you all check your gutters around here?

Is this your secret plan to finally get some exercise? I used to be the same way, but now I treat my gutters like a needy pet that requires constant attention. It's a bit much, but hey, it works.

Man, @ryan_flores, that's the realest way to put it... a needy pet. So how often are you actually up on that ladder? I finally cleaned mine out last fall and it was a full-on horror show of wet leaves and sludge. Felt like a real chore, but you're right, you just have to make peace with the routine of it.
