Just realized the $150 I spent on a crawl space dehumidifier in Decatur saved my floors
Honestly last spring I noticed a musty smell coming up through the vents and my hardwood near the hallway started cupping a little. A guy quoted me $1,800 to encapsulate the whole crawl space and I almost pulled the trigger. Instead I bought a $150 dehumidifier with a hose drain and set it down there near the low corner. Three weeks later the smell was gone and the floor boards flattened back out on their own. The thing pulls about a gallon of water a day out of that air, which blew my mind. Now I empty nothing since it drains into the sump, but I check the filter about once a month. Has anyone else gone the cheap route down there, or did encapsulation actually pay off for you?
