Just realized energy audits might actually be worth the hype

I was skeptical about paying $400 for a home energy audit, thinking it was just a sales pitch for new windows. But after the guy showed me infrared images of my attic insulation gaps and calculated my duct leaks, I found out I could save about $200 a year on my cooling bills. Has anyone else had an audit pay off in real savings or did I just get lucky?

My $350 audit found the same attic insulation gaps and my AC bill dropped by $150 the first summer. Did they give you a priority list of fixes based on cost versus savings?

Right, so did they actually rank the fixes by cost vs savings or just hand you a generic list? I've heard some auditors just dump everything on you without any real guidance on what will give you the biggest bang for your buck first. That air sealing is usually the obvious winner, but what about ductwork or adding more insulation in the crawlspace? Curious if they broke down the payback period for each item, like "this gap fix will save you X in Y months".
