Just found out my property tax bill was wrong for three years because I never checked the county's square footage record.

Yeah, calling the assessor like harper_singh18 said is the right first step. I had to bring my own floor plan and old appraisal to prove their numbers were off. It was a hassle but they fixed it and sent a corrected bill.
