That one Saturn ring photo from an old telescope changed how I see everything

A retired engineer at the local astronomy club let me look through his 12-inch Dobsonian last Tuesday and I finally understood why people spend decades looking up at the same patch of sky.

Honestly, I had the exact same feeling the first time I saw Saturn through a buddy's 8-inch scope at a star party. I was expecting just a tiny smudge, but that little golden disk with the rings floating around it made the whole night sky feel real, not like a picture in a book. It's wild how looking at something that small can make you feel so big and so small at the same time. Took me about a week after that to buy my own cheap scope and start hunting down everything I could find.

Close, but that was probably a 6-inch scope.
