Pro tip: Check your light pollution map before picking a spot

I keep seeing people post photos from inside city limits and wondering why they get washed-out shots. Last month I drove 45 minutes out to a Bortle 3 zone near Lake Murray and the difference was night and day. You can pull up a free light pollution map online in about 2 minutes. Why spend hours on stacking and editing when you can just drive a little further out? Anyone else find that a dark site matters more than expensive gear?

Isn't it funny how we overcomplicate everything in life when the simple solution is right there? Same goes for people buying the fanciest skillet when all they need is better heat control.
