My neighbor's night sky photo from last year vs this year is wild

I was looking at two photos of the Milky Way he took from his backyard, one in July 2023 and one just last week. The first one was crisp and clear, but the new one has this weird orange glow covering the whole bottom half. He told me the town put up 20 new LED streetlights down the road since then. Has anyone else noticed light pollution getting way worse in just a year or so?

Oh man, @the_hannah you're totally right that older streetlights were orange. The weird thing is some of these new LED lights actually have this awful orange tint too now. In my experience the town cheaped out and got the warm color temperature LEDs instead of the daylight white ones, so they glow like a pumpkin. I actually did a dumb thing and bought a light pollution filter for my camera lens that made everything look blue and muddy. Your mileage may vary but that orange haze in your neighbor's photo sounds exactly like what happened to my own backyard shots this summer. Take it with a grain of salt but I've noticed a huge difference just between spring and fall where I live too.

Wait, aren't those orange lights from old sodium bulbs, not new LEDs?
