TIL I wasted $200 on a metal detector that couldn't find anything in my own backyard

Bought one of those cheap detectors off Amazon last spring. Figured I'd find old coins or relics in my yard since the house was built in the 1920s. Spent 3 weekends sweeping every inch of the property. Only found bottle caps and a rusty sprinkler valve. Finally asked a guy from the local archaeology club to look at it. He laughed and said the machine can't handle mineralized soil, which is what we have around here. Should have asked around first before buying. Anyone else get burned by a detector that just wasn't right for your ground conditions?

Honestly @vera_sanchez, mine was so bad it beeped at a soda can buried three inches down. Tbh I thought I found treasure until I dug it up and just felt dumb.
