The museum guard in Rome pointed at a crack in the floor and now I can't stop thinking about it
I was at the Colosseum last month and a guard waved me over to a spot near the outer ring. He showed me a row of holes drilled into the stone about 3 inches wide and said they were from people pulling out iron clamps centuries ago, so the whole thing was held together like a puzzle. I had walked past that floor twice before and never noticed a thing. Does anyone know if those clamp holes show up at other Roman sites, or is the Colosseum kind of unique there?
