I volunteer with a local archaeology group and we got permission to dig at a site outside Tucson last Saturday. Most days you find nothing but rocks and dirt, so I was just going through the motions. Around hour 5, my trowel hit something hard and I thought it was another stupid rock. I brushed it off and saw painted lines on it, which turned out to be Hohokam pottery from around 1000 AD. The site director got super excited and said it was a rare find for that area. I spent the rest of the day carefully wrapping it and filling out paperwork. Has anyone else had a dig where you almost gave up right before finding something good?
