Six straight days of digging in the Nevada desert and not one shard of pottery

We cleared grid B7 out near Lovelock last May and found nothing but dirt and rocks for six days, then on the final afternoon a single obsidian arrowhead turned up in the last trowel pass and it made me wonder how many sites we walk over because we give up too soon, has anyone else had a drought break like that?
