My dad's 1990s trowel still beats my new one
Picked up a fancy stainless trowel at the supply shop six months ago but my old man's beat up carbon steel one from a garage sale in 2003 still lays mud flatter. Any of you find old tools that just work better than new stuff?

The bit about laying mud flatter is the kicker. I bet that old trowel has been worn down by years of use, so the edges are slightly rounded and the blade has a natural curve to it. New trowels come out of the box with sharp, square corners that catch and drag. Take that vintage trowel to a bench grinder for five minutes and you'd ruin it - the steel's already been broken in by years of real work, not a machine.
