Honestly, the erosion at the main dig site in Petra has gotten way worse just since last season's tourist surge.
Tbh, I saw photos from a colleague taken in March versus ones from October, and the foot traffic from the new cruise ship tours has visibly worn down the sandstone steps by the Treasury facade, so has anyone else documented this kind of rapid site damage?

Read an article last week that showed side-by-side photos of the Siq pathway... the grooves in the rock from carts are way deeper now, and you can see new cracks forming near the top from all the vibration. It's not just the steps, the whole canyon is getting hit. Mason.margaret is right, it's like slow grinding. They mentioned the cruise lines added three new "history day trips" this year, and the math on visitor numbers was scary. Makes you wonder if they'll have to shut parts off completely soon.
