Heard a podcast say we're digging up too much, too fast
They were talking about the work at Çatalhöyük in Turkey, and how some think the pace of excavation is damaging the site for future study. I STRONGLY disagree. The idea that we should leave things buried 'for later' ignores that sites are being destroyed by climate and construction RIGHT NOW. What's a site you think we should be excavating faster before it's gone?

Used to think slow was better, but seeing sites wash away changed my mind. Places like the sunken port at Heracleion need to come up before the sea eats them.

Totally get where you're coming from. The whole "save it for later" thing feels like a luxury we don't have anymore. Pompeii comes to mind, the parts that are still buried are just rotting from all the water and tourists.
