Found a way to clean old pottery shards without damaging the surface glaze

I was working on some Roman pottery pieces from a dig site in southern Spain and the usual water soak was leaving mineral deposits. I read about using a soft toothbrush with a bit of white vinegar, and it actually lifted the grime without harming the colored finish. Has anyone else found a good cleaning method for delicate glazed ceramics?

Try a cotton swab with distilled water first.

Used to think you needed special cleaners for everything. The distilled water trick works way better on sticky stuff than I expected. Changed my whole cleaning routine.
