Was just in the old growth section of Muir Woods and the bark on some of those redwoods is unreal
I was there last weekend, and you can see where fires scarred some of the giants over a century ago. The way the cambium has grown around the old wounds, it's like a living record. It made me think about how we used to just see a damaged tree as a hazard, but now we're taught to read that history. Anyone else get that feeling when you see a tree that's clearly been through it?

Nah, it's just a dead tree.

I saw one redwood at Muir with a scar so wide I could have stood inside it. The new bark had grown in these wild, lumpy waves around the edges, like it was trying to swallow the old burn. It's way more interesting than a perfect tree. Makes me feel better about my own weird scars, honestly.
