Vent: A homeowner in Tacoma argued with me for 20 minutes about topping his 40 foot Douglas fir
He kept saying his dad did it that way and the tree was still standing, but topping pushes out weak water sprouts that snap in wind storms 5 to 10 years later. How do you all explain this to folks who already made up their mind before you showed up?

Yep, and 20 years of "my dad did it" won't regrow a trunk.
