Tried a new climbing hitch on a big maple removal in Boise and it slipped.

I was using a Blake's hitch with a different rope type and it just wouldn't hold under load. Anyone have a better knot for wet, smooth bark?

My cousin in Oregon swears by a VT hitch for wet conifers, but he uses a totally different rope setup. I've never trusted anything but a plain old prusik on slick bark after a close call years ago. What rope were you running with the Blake's?

Man, that's sketchy. I had the same problem with a Blake's on a slick cherry tree. Switched to a Knut hitch with a shorter tail and it bit way better on the wet bark.
