Took a bad lean on a red oak in Albany yesterday and somehow walked away clean
Was dropping a big dead limb on a residential job around 2pm. My notch cut was off by maybe an inch and the limb started to bind on the saw bar instead of falling clean. Had to yank the saw out quick and re-cut from the top down with a handsaw to free it up. Landed right where I wanted it but my heart was pounding for a good 10 minutes after. Anybody else have a close call that taught you to double check your notch placement?

Buddy of mine had a similar thing happen up near Glens Falls last fall. He was taking down a big limb over a driveway and his notch was just a hair too shallow. The saw got pinched bad and he spent twenty minutes trying to wedge it out while the limb was creaking overhead. He said the worst part was knowing if it let go wrong it would take the saw with it. He checks his notch cuts with a tape measure now every single time.

Totally agree! I had a maple limb twist on me last spring because I rushed the notch and it wasn't balanced. Freaked me out so bad I double check everything now too, even if it feels like overkill!
