TIL a 3-foot hand saw can outwork a chainsaw on tight limb removal

I was working a job in Portland last month trimming a big maple that had branches all tangled up near a power line. My chainsaw felt too risky for the angle, so I grabbed this old 3-foot pruning saw I keep in the truck for backup. Took me about 20 minutes to cut through a 6-inch limb that would have been a hassle with the power tool. The control I had was way better, no bar oil mess, and I didn't scare the homeowner with noise. I've been using it more for those tight spots where a chainsaw feels like overkill. Anyone else rely on a hand saw for jobs that seem like they need a power tool?

You ever try cutting frozen stuff with a hand saw? I was clearing ice dams off my roof last winter and my reciprocating saw blades kept snapping. That old pruning saw went through frozen branches like butter. Kept my footing way steadier too, no torque throwing me off balance on a slippery roof.

@jason11 same experience with frozen branches, hand saw gives way better control than any power tool in slick conditions.
