I was climbing with a false crotch for two years before a storm in Charlotte showed me the risk

I always set my false crotch in what looked like a strong union, but a big wind last October made the whole spar sway and my anchor point shifted. Now I'm rethinking if a redirect or a different tie-in point is always safer in mature trees. What's your rule for when a false crotch isn't the right call?

You set a false crotch in a union for two whole years?

How much did that thing move? I had a big pine do the same to me, made me switch to a redirect on anything that felt even a little springy.
