I spent 4 hours trying to save a 30 year old oak and wish I'd just cut it down sooner

Had a client in Cleveland with a massive oak that had decay in the main trunk. I spent a whole afternoon trying to cable and brace it, thinking I could buy it another 5 years. But when I got into the cavity, the rot went way deeper than I expected, almost to the ground. Has anyone else dumped a ton of time into a tree that really just needed to come down from the start?

4 hours trying to save a 30 year old oak" reminds me of when I spent a whole Saturday trying to patch a leaky gutter on my garage. Turned out the whole thing was rusted through and I just needed a new one.
