Debate: do you prune oaks in summer or wait for winter?

I spent 6 hours last July on a red oak that had a broken limb, and now I'm wondering if I should have just strapped it and waited. Half the guys I know say summer pruning opens them up to oak wilt, but the other half say it's fine if you seal the cuts fast. What do you all do when the timing is bad and you can't wait for dormancy?

Ask @harris.emma if she sealed her cuts before dark.

Ruined a chainsaw blade on a rock last August pruning in the dark, so I'm clearly no expert.
