Changed my mind about stump grinding after visiting that park in Denver

I used to think grinding stumps down to the dirt was the only way to go. Then I walked through City Park last month and noticed all these old stumps left about a foot high with carvings and planters on top. They looked way better than the bare spots and seemed to help the soil around them. Anybody else leave stumps high for clients who want something different?

That park in Denver actually changed how I see stumps too... those carved ones with flowers growing out of them were pretty neat. A bare dirt patch where a stump used to be just looks sad and can erode over time. Leaving a foot of stump gives you something to work with, like a natural planter or a little seat. It also keeps the roots alive longer which might help the soil hold together better. I get that not everyone wants that look but it's definitely not just a park gimmick.

Oh please, a few carved stumps in a fancy park don't prove anything about real yards.
