Appreciation post: that $300 splitter that saved my shoulder this fall

I bought a cheap manual splitter years ago from a guy in Iowa. It worked but man it beat me up. After three seasons my right shoulder was just done. Picked up a used hydraulic splitter for three hundred bucks last spring. First big storm came through October and I split two cords in an afternoon without even feeling it the next day. Best money I ever spent on gear. Anyone else find a tool that made a huge difference in how long you can keep working?

Did you ever feel like you were fighting your gear before you got that splitter? I know exactly what you mean about the shoulder thing, I had the same problem with my old maul until I finally switched to a splitter with a log lift. That alone saved my back, I can stack way more wood now without that dull ache the next morning.

Fought my gear every single day with that old maul. My shoulder would start barking after just a few logs and I knew I was in for a rough afternoon. The log lift on my new splitter changed everything, no more bending over and twisting like a pretzel. I can go through a whole face cord now and barely feel it the next day. Best money I ever spent on firewood gear hands down.
