A chat with a city forester about stump grinding made me see things differently

I was talking to our local city forester, Mark, after a job last Thursday. He mentioned they leave some stumps to rot on purpose in the park's natural areas, saying 'it's a free lunch for the soil and the bugs.' I'd always pushed for a clean grind and removal as the only right way. Now I'm thinking about when that extra cost and effort is really needed versus when leaving it is better for the land. Has anyone else started leaving more stumps in place for certain jobs?

Wow, that's a whole new way to look at it.

Wow, that's a whole new way to look at it" is a pretty big shift from what taylor.elliot was saying. What part of the idea actually changed your mind? I'm trying to see the full picture here.
