Went with the cheap multimeter over the Fluke, still alive to tell it

I've been repairing washers and dryers in Fresno for about 8 years now, and my old Fluke finally died after a drop down a basement stairs. Everyone in the shop told me to drop $250 on another one, but I grabbed a $40 Klein from the supply house instead. Six months in and it's handled every resistance check and outlet test I've thrown at it without a hiccup. I'm not saying the expensive gear is a scam, but the budget option works fine for diagnostic work where you're just looking for continuity and voltage. Has anyone else ditched the high-end tools and regretted it or found the cheap stuff holds up?

Forty dollars for a tool that reads resistance and voltage is basically the same guts as the expensive one for 90% of what we do. The real difference shows up in drop damage and water resistance, not day to day diagnosing. It's the same pattern as name brand ibuprofen vs the store label, you're paying for the badge on the case.
