Wasted $120 on a used washing machine that died in 2 weeks

Picked up a used Samsung top loader off Facebook Marketplace for $120. Thought I got a deal but it started leaking on day 8. By day 14 the drum wouldn't spin at all. Opened it up and found the bearings were completely shot and the spider arm had cracks. Took me 4 hours to haul it to the dump and I was out the cash plus my time. Anyone else get burned by a used machine that looked fine on the outside but was rotted inside?

I've bought maybe 10 used appliances over the years and only gotten burned once, on a refrigerator. The thing is, those top loaders from Samsung and LG, the ones from around 2010 to 2015, they have a known problem with the spider arm cracking. It's not just bad luck, it's a design flaw in those specific models. Next time you might want to look for a basic Whirlpool or Maytag from before they started adding all the electronics. Those old workhorses will outlast you.

Exactly. Those Samsung and LG top loaders from that era are basically ticking time bombs with the spider arm thing. A basic Whirlpool from before they got fancy will probably run longer than your next car. Simple is better when it comes to laundry machines.
