That old timer told me to always check the door hinge alignment first on a noisy Samsung washer
I spent two hours chasing a drum balance issue on a client's machine in Dayton last Saturday before remembering his advice, and sure enough the hinge was off by a quarter inch causing the whole vibration problem, has anyone else found that manufacturers are skimping on hinge quality lately?

I'm actually gonna push back here. I've worked on maybe 20 Samsung washers in the last year and the hinges seem fine to me, it's almost always a loose counterweight or a floor that's not level causing that kind of shake. If that old timer's hinge tip saved you two hours, that's great, but I think we're sometimes too quick to blame the parts when the real issue is installation or user error.

Hinges on the newer models are definitely thinner metal than they used to be, feels like they shaved off a few cents per unit and called it a day. That old timer's trick paid off for you though, so clearly there's something to checking them first even if the pros think it's rare. Barbara's right that floors and counterweights cause a lot of noise too, but that doesn't mean the hinge quality hasn't slipped a bit over the years. Seen a couple where the hinge screws stripped out just from normal use, which is pretty weak honestly.
