Oh man, I gotta disagree with you there a little bit. I've had pretty good luck with generic fridge filters that actually match the right specs for my unit, and the water definitely tastes better than straight tap. The real scam is how much the name brand ones cost, not that they don't do anything at all... you know what I mean? I've seen the difference in my ice cubes getting cloudy when I let a filter go too long, so something must be working. Maybe it depends on your fridge model or your local water quality though.
