That $380 coil tester I bought on a whim actually saved my butt on a Fridgidaire
Got called to a no-cool in a 2008 side by side last Tuesday. Compressor was kicking on but barely any cold. I was about to throw a start relay and capacitor at it, the old shotgun approach. Then I remembered I had this Supco tester sitin in my van for like 3 months after a pawn shop splurge. Checked the run winding and it was reading open. Compressor was toast. Told the homeowner it needs a new unit basically. They were pissed but at least I didnt waste 2 hours swapping parts and charging them for nothin. The tester was $380 used but it probably saved me 3 hours of labor and a callback. Anyone else drop cash on a specialty tool and wonder if it was worth it? or do you still just guess and test?
