Remembering the old trick with a penny for washing machine leveling

I was leveling a Whirlpool top loader last week and the old plastic feet were stripped. Couldn't get it right with the wrench. Then I remembered a guy I worked with in Phoenix about 15 years ago told me to put a penny under the leg if the foot was bad. I was skeptical, but I tried it. It gave the leg just enough bite to hold the adjustment while I tightened the lock nut. Worked perfectly. Does anyone still use that trick, or is there a better fix for stripped feet these days?

Yeah, that penny trick is a classic... though @amyb54 has a point about rust being a worry long-term.

Honestly I'm surprised the feet strip out that often. My last washer ran for ten years and I never had to touch the leveling legs. Maybe it's a problem with certain brands or if people move them a lot. A penny seems like a quick fix but wouldn't it rust and get stuck? I'd probably just order new plastic feet online, they're cheap. Seems more permanent than hoping a coin holds up.
