PSA: That 'easy' washer bearing job ate my whole Thursday

Got a call last Wednesday for a Samsung washer throwing error codes, thought it was just a bad drum bearing. Took me 3 hours to get the outer tub split open because the previous guy used loctite on every single bolt. Found the bearing race had completely fused to the shaft, spent another 2 hours with a puller and a torch to get it off. Ended up billing 6 hours on a job I quoted for 2, has anyone else run into these welded-on Samsung parts lately?

Not to nitpick, but that sounds more like a seized bearing race than a fused one. Fused usually means the metal actually bonded together from heat or rust, and a torch and puller would just make a mess of it. Seized is just stuck from corrosion and grime, which is way more common on those older Samsungs. Either way, yeah, those damn machines are a nightmare to take apart. I've had to cut a few shafts out with a grinder when the bearing race didn't want to budge at all.

oh man, i feel so called out right now because i definitely just tell people i "fused" a bearing when really i just couldn't get it unstuck with a crowbar and some choice words. like, my mechanical vocabulary is basically just "stuck" and "really stuck" and then "oh no it made a weird noise." i've absolutely been that person who gets the torch out thinking i'm gonna be clever and then i just end up with a smoking mess and a worse problem than before. honestly, if you've never had to grind a shaft out of a machine while questioning all your life choices, are you even a real DIYer?
