Picked up a tip about dryer vent cleaning at a parts counter yesterday

I was at Ferguson's in Phoenix grabbing a belt for a Whirlpool and the guy behind the counter started talking about how often he sees dryers with vents that look clean from the outside but are totally clogged inside the wall. He said he had a call last month where a family was running the dryer three times to get stuff dry and it turned out the vent pipe had a huge bird nest about 4 feet in from the outside. I never really thought about checking past the first few feet of flex hose. Most of my residential calls I just clean the lint trap and check the outdoor flap. Now I'm thinking I need to start bringing my camera scope on those jobs. Has anyone else run into vents that look fine from both ends but are blocked somewhere in the middle?

There's a whole world of things hiding right where nobody bothers to look.

Three cycles to dry a load sounds like a bad dryer design or cheap duct tape joints, not a hidden clog. I'd be more worried about people fixing the wrong thing than actual vent issues inside the wall.
