Original parts vs. aftermarket on a Frigidaire ice maker?
I had to choose between a genuine Frigidaire ice maker module for $85 and a knockoff for $40 last week on a job in Austin. I went with the cheap one to save the customer money, but now it's cycling weird and the ice cubes are half size. Did I mess up, or do aftermarket parts sometimes work out with some tweaking? What's your take on this trade-off?

I read somewhere that a lot of aftermarket ice makers just use cheaper parts that don't match the original specs, especially the timing on the harvest cycle. I think you got one of those bad batches. I've heard guys say they've had luck swapping the control board from the old genuine part into the cheap housing, but that's a gamble. That half size cube thing sounds like the water fill valve isn't staying open long enough. Might be worth spending the extra $45 next time to avoid driving back to Austin for a redo.

Did you check if the ice maker's wiring harness is actually seated all the way? I've seen that cause the exact same half-cube issue after a swap.
