My old boss told me to always replace the whole valve assembly on those Kenmore washers

He said it was faster and more reliable than just swapping the solenoid. I did it his way for years, probably 50 jobs. Last week, a customer brought in a 2007 model with a slow fill. I checked the screen first on a hunch, and it was packed with grit. Cleaned it out, tested the solenoid, and it worked fine. The whole fix took 15 minutes and cost the customer nothing for parts. I've been overcharging and overworking for a decade. Anyone else find a 'standard' practice that was actually just a bad habit?

That's a tough realization to have after so long. Plenty of us get stuck in routines that make sense at the time. Good on you for catching it and breaking the habit.

Took me years to notice I was still using the same password from high school. Guess some habits die harder than others.
