Heard a customer say their new smart fridge was too slow to ice up

I was at a parts counter yesterday and overheard a guy complaining his brand new fridge took 4 hours to make a tray of ice. Makes me wonder if people are expecting too much from these newer energy saver models. Has anyone else noticed longer ice times on the newer stuff?

Four hours for ice sounds about right honestly. Those high efficiency fridges are designed to sip power, not blast cold air like the old ones.

yeah I dunno man, four hours for ice cubes just feels like a lot. like sure the new fridges are all about saving energy and whatever but does it really take that long to freeze a little bit of water? I remember my grandma's old fridge would have ice ready in like an hour tops. maybe we're just overthinking this whole efficiency thing and it's really just a slow ice maker. feels like one of those things where the tech got fancier but not necessarily better for everyday use.
