Found a sneaky cause for ice maker failures last week

I was working on a Samsung fridge in a house near Austin. The ice maker stopped working and the board showed no errors. I spent an hour checking sensors and the water line before I noticed the little plastic arm that tells the dispenser when the bucket is full was just slightly bent. Bent it back with my fingers and it started working perfectly. Has anyone else run into something this simple causing no error codes?

Oh man, that is sneaky! I had a similar thing happen on a Whirlpool where the arm was just a tiny bit sticky from some dried syrup. Bent it back and forth a couple times and it started working again. No error codes at all, just that little jam.

Man, I used to be the kind of guy who would always assume the worst with ice makers - first thought is always a bad control board or a clogged water valve. But a few months back I had a GE fridge where the little arm was just barely hitting the side of the ice bucket, not even bent, just a hair off. I was ready to replace the whole dispenser assembly before a buddy of mine told me to wiggle it around. Fixed it in five seconds flat. So yeah, this experience completely flipped my thinking. Now I always check those arms first, even if everything looks normal. It's wild how something so tiny can mess everything up and give zero clues.
